Team GB's Lutalo Muhammad has failed to reach the semi-finals of the men's taekwondo event after losing 7-3 to Spain's Nicolas Garcia Hemme.
The 21-year-old, who made headlines earlier this year after Olympic selectors opted for Muhammad to represent Great Britain over world number one Aaron Cook, started off tense in the bout.
The early stages of the clash were cagey, with neither competitor making much contact but it was all square at 1-1 at the end of the second round.
Despite Muhammad trying to launch a comeback, Hemme committed the first blow and went on to clinch the victory 7-3 and prevent the Brit from contesting for a gold medal.
