Great Britain's Liam Broady progressed to the second round of the Hall of Fame Open with a straightforward two-set win over Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki on Monday.

The 29-year-old strolled through the opening set with just one game dropped but was forced to dig a little deeper in the second, although he still took just 78 minutes to win 6-1 7-5.

Broady dropped just two points on serve during the entire first set - winning 11 out of 11 behind his first serve - as he broke in the second and sixth games before taking his first set point.

The world number 130 immediately went a set and a break up in the second, but 20-year-old Mochizuki - who sits 192nd in the ATP Rankings - levelled the match as Broady was serving for a place in round two.

However, Mochizuki lost his serve straight away after earning the break back, and Broady came through a final nervy hold to 30 to set up a second-round tie with Australian seventh seed Jordan Thompson.

Broady memorably knocked three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud out of Wimbledon before losing to Denis Shapovalov in round three, but he is yet to win a title on the ATP Tour. body check tags ::
