Roger Federer has admitted that he was surprised by the emphatic nature of his 6-0 6-1 victory over Andy Murray at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The Swiss number one said that he was pleased with his performance, but was glad his opponent managed to clinch one game to avoid the humiliation of a whitewash.
"Clearly, I'm very happy to play a good match today," Federer told reporters. "I knew I was qualified so maybe I went in a bit more relaxed.
"It's not the way I thought it was going to go, but there's always next year for Andy and hopefully he can have a good season.
"At the end I was happy I didn't win the second to last game to be quite honest."
The win fires Federer into the semi-finals of the competition.
