Andy Murray has opened his ATP World Tour Finals campaign at the 02 Arena with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Spaniard David Ferrer.
As expected, both players started well in London, with the first set remaining on serve until 4-5 when Murray broke Ferrer's serve at the fifth time of asking to claim the opener 6-4.
It was Ferrer who came out fighting in the second set as he broke Murray before holding to move two games ahead of the Scot.
World number two Murray responded with a break at 3-2, however, to level the scores moving in to the seventh game of the second set.
Ferrer held his next serve in the middle of two Murray holds, but another break for the Brit at 4-5 saw the contest end after one hour and 32 minutes of tennis.
Murray will face either Stanislas Wawrinka or Rafael Nadal in his next match on Wednesday.
