Serena Williams insists that she has no idea why her early matches at this year's Australian Open have been full of bumps and bruises.

Serena Williams has made light of her aches and pains in the early stages of the Australian Open after her second-round victory earlier today.

A straight-sets win over Garbine Muguruza will be best remembered for an incident which saw Williams hit herself in the face with her own racket on a forehand follow through.

Williams admitted that she is waiting for the next injury to come after rolling her ankle in Melbourne earlier this week.

She told the Tennis Channel: "I'm beating myself up and I don't know why. I love myself, at least I think I do.

"One day I twist my ankle, one day I hit my mouth. I don't know what's going to happen on Saturday."

The five-time Australian Open champion is in doubles action with sister Venus Williams later today.
