An extremely tight affair finally ended in victory for Nicolas Almagro after a strong start from Lukasz Kubot.

Kubot started the brighter of the two players, taking the first set 6-1 with a strong performance.

Almagro then began his fight back and secured the second 5-7 after an even set in which both players showed great ability.

Almagro went into the third set with confidence and shone throughout before taking it 3-6.

The Spaniard then secured his place in the second round with a 5-7 victory in the fourth set.
