Roger Federer has made it though to the final of the Australian Open after Hyeon Chung was forced to retire in the second set of their semi-final.

The defending champion was on course to move two sets in front when his South Korean opponent called it quits due to a blister on his left foot.

Federer, into a record seventh final Down Under, will now take on Marin Cilic - victorious against Britain's Kyle Edmund in the other semi - on Sunday as he seeks his 20th Grand Slam title.

World number two Federer broke Chung's serve in the first game and opened up a commanding 5-1 lead, before eventually taking his sixth set point to move in front in the match.

Chung was clearly struggling with the injury to his foot, and at 5-2 down in the second set he took the tough decision to withdraw, ending his hopes of prolonging his dream run in the process.
