Roger Federer advanced safely to the quarter finals of the Australian Open with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Bernard Tomic.
The world number three triumphed 6-4 6-2 6-2 to set up a last eight tie with Argentine Juan Martin del Potro.
The first set went with serve until the ninth game when Federer broke the 19-year-old before holding to take the first set.
From then on, the Swiss maestro was rarely challenged by the home crowd favourite and cruised into a two-set lead.
He then broke Tomic early in the third before finishing him off with a delicate forehand winner to secure passage into the quarter finals.
Federer is on track to face Rafael Nadal in the last four after the Spaniard eased past compatriot Feliciano Lopez earlier today.
