Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova needed to be at her best to overcome Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the second round of the Australian Open on Thursday.
Navarro, who made the quarter-finals in 2009, started the match well but faded late in the set as Kvitova secured the opener 6-2 and looked to be on course for a routine win.
Navarro had other ideas, however, taking the second set 6-2 after displaying some impressive serving ability.
Kvitova's quality eventually shone through in the third, taking a break of serve to secure the third 6-4 along with the match.
