Fernando Verdasco is through to the second round of the Cincinnati Open after an impressive three-set victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Tsonga took control of the early stages, returning the Spaniard's serve well to break serve on the way to taking the opening set 6-3.
However, Verdasco gradually got a foothold in the match and began to dominate on his serve, as well as securing a break of his own to level the contest.
The 31-year-old then saved two break points in the final set and converted one of his own as he closed out a 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory in two hours and 15 minutes to move into the second round, where he will face David Goffin.
