Caroline Wozniacki has failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open after suffering a 4-6 4-6 defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
The former world number one was broken in her second service game of the clash, which enabled Pavlyuchenkova to push on and retain her serve to grab the lead and take the first set in Cincinnati.
Both competitors were equal in the early stages of the second set but once again the Russian pro was able to snatch a break at a vital time.
While Wozniacki tried to launch a comeback, her forehand efforts and returns were not enough to trouble her opponent, who eased into the quarter-finals of the tournament.
