David Ferrer plays down his chances of winning the first Grand Slam of his career at the French Open.

David Ferrer has played down his chances of winning the French Open this year.

The Spanish number two booked his place in round four of the competition earlier today courtesy of a 6-0 6-2 6-2 victory over Mikhail Youzhny.

Despite making it through to the last 16, the 30-year-old has insisted that he is only focused on his next match.

"I don't want to think about if I will win Roland Garros," he told reporters. "I will have to play semi-final, quarter-final. For me, the most important is the next match."

Discussing his performance against Youzhny, Ferrer revealed that he was "satisfied" with his display on the clay.

"I think I managed to keep my focus throughout the match," he added. "It was very important to start well, and I had to start attacking and play very high balls. All the points were good for me. I'm very satisfied."

Ferrer will take on either Marcel Granollers or Paul-Henri Mathieu for a place in the quarter-finals.
