Garbine Muguruza has admitted that she plays her best tennis at the big tournaments after reaching the French Open quarter-finals.
The 21st seed made it through to the last eight at Roland Garros on Monday thanks to a 6-3 6-4 triumph over Flavia Pennetta.
Having beaten Serena Williams at last year's tournament before losing in the quarters, Muguruza believes that the intensity of a Grand Slam brings out the best in her.
"I think that in big tournaments I feel more motivated and I can play my best tennis," she told reporters. "I'm just really happy to be in the quarter-finals again here in Roland Garros. I think it's going to be my favorite Grand Slam. I'm just really excited."
Muguruza will take on Lucie Safarova for a place in the semi-finals.
