Varvara Lepchenko's run at the French Open has come to an abrupt end after she was beaten in straight sets by Petra Kvitova.
The unseeded American, who has beaten Francesca Schiavone and Jelena Jankovic in this year's championships, found the Wimbledon champion a bridge too far in Paris.
Kvitova took just an hour to dispose of the 26-year-old, winning through to the quarter-final with a 6-2 6-1 triumph.
The Czech pro will now face Li Na's conqueror Yarslava Shvedova on Wednesday for a place in the last four.
