Russia's Ekaterina Makarova scraped through to the third round of the French Open with a three-set victory over Brazilian qualifier Teliana Pereira this evening.
In the opening set, the duo traded holds of serve in the first two games before Makarova pulled away by winning five of the next six games to move ahead 6-2.
The second was much tighter and it was Pereira who came through 7-5 as Makarova lost two games in a row after preventing the Brazilian from serving it out at 5-4.
One break of serve was enough for Makarova to come through the deciding third set as she opened up a 4-1 lead before coming through 6-3 after surviving a scare on her serve in the third game.
Elena Vesnina awaits Makarova, who has reached the semi-finals of the last two Grand Slams in Australia and America, in the third round.
