Ekaterina Makarova has defeated Elena Vesnina in straight sets to earn her place in the last 16 of the French Open.
The ninth seed remained in full control against her Russian compatriot before eventually sealing a 6-2 6-4 victory.
Makarova, who is looking to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros for the first time, broke Vesnina's serve twice during the opening set before she quickly opened up a lead at the start of the second.
Vesnina battled on gamely and had two opportunities to break back, but after Makarova survived, she confidently served out the match to set up a clash with Ana Ivanovic.
