Veteran Paul-Henri Mathieu has been eliminated in the second round of the French Open against Roberto Bautista-Agut, who won 7-6(5) 6-4 6-1.
The 34-year-old Frenchman, playing in his 14th Roland Garros tournament, began strongly against his Spanish opponent, taking him to a tie-break.
Bautista-Agut, ranked 16th in the world, was however able to clinch the set, before sweeping the home favourite aside by taking the next two sets and, ultimately, the match.
Mathieu had played until nightfall in his first-round victory against Colombian Santiago Giraldo two days ago.
