Garbine Muguruza booked her place in the final of this year's French Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Samantha Stosur this afternoon.
The 22-year-old made light work of her Australian opponent, wrapping up a 6-2 6-4 victory in one hour 18 minutes to reach her first Roland Garros final.
Muguruza was on the front foot from the off, breaking in the first game and then again to race into a 4-0 lead in what turned out to be a comfortable first-set win.
The second set started the same way as the first, with Muguruza breaking at the first time of asking, although Stosur's resilience shone through with a break of her own to level the scores at 2-2.
Muguruza was right back with a break of her own, however, and when she did the same to make it 5-2, the contest appeared to be all but over for Stosur.
A strange game that followed saw Stosur break to love for 5-3, but nevertheless Muguruza held out to set up a final encounter with defending champion Serena Williams.
