Roger Federer has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open with a 5-7 7-5 6-2 6-4 win over Belgian David Goffin.
Goffin, who only achieved a place in the main draw as a lucky loser, excelled beyond his experience in the first set and duly took it 7-5.
However, Federer responded to take the second set by the same scoreline, as he slowly turned the tables on his 21-year-old opponent.
An early break of serve in the third set handed Federer the momentum and he converted a further break point on the way to winning the set 6-2.
Goffin continued to show flashes of brilliance but Federer was ultimately proving too strong and he took the fourth set 6-4 to seal victory.
Federer will play Juan Martin del Potro or Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.
