American Jack Sock has booked his spot in the second round of the French Open with a comfortable 7-6[7] 6-2 6-3 victory over Grigor Dimitrov.
A tight first set brought few errors from either player, with a tie-break left to decide the outcome after no drops of serve. The breaker was equally as close, but Sock came through 9-7 on what was his second set point.
Losing the opener seemed to take a lot out of Dimitrov and when Sock broke at 2-3 in the second before holding, the American was one game away from a two-set lead.
That indeed proved the case when Sock secured a second straight break to move into the third set full of confidence.
Sock again broke Dimitrov early in the third, before holding to race into a 3-0 lead. The Bulgarian did recover to hold three times, but Sock's serve remained strong as the 22-year-old booked his spot in the second round.
Sock reached the third round of the French Open in 2014, but has never been past that particular stage.
