Defending French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka kept his campaign on track after overcoming Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to reach the fourth round on Friday.
The Swiss, who is ranked fourth in the world, earned a 6-4 6-3 7-5 victory in just over two hours on the clay court.
It was a troubling start for Wawrinka as he was broken instantly at the beginning of the first set, but the two-time Grand Slam champion managed to break back straight away.
Games went by the way of serve until Wawrinka broke again to take the lead, and he carried his momentum into the second by nabbing a single break point.
The third set was less straightforward as Chardy broke to draw the game 5-5, but once again, Wawrinka responded and prevented the set from going into a tie-break.
