Marion Bartoli has progressed from the second round at Indian Wells after beating American Varvara Lepchenko in three sets.
Lepchenko, who twice broke her opponent in the opening set, was able to save all three of Bartoli's break points to race out to a one-set lead.
However, with Lepchenko struggling to maintain her serve, the world number seven struck back to win three break-points of her own and take the match to the deciding set.
The American appeared to have regained the upperhand after breaking Bartoli in the opening stages, but the French number one twice broke back to seal the win.
