World number 12 Tommy Haas has advanced through to the third round of the Indian Wells Masters by beating Jeremy Chardy in straight sets.
The 35-year-old took a 2-1 lead in the opening set before losing the serve, but Chardy failed to trouble him and he eventually took it 6-3.
Chardy made for a tougher second set as he pushed Haas all the way, with the contest delicately posed at 4-4, but the German used his experience to edge it 6-4 to secure victory.
Elsewhere, Alejandro Falla also progressed courtesy of a narrow victory over Jerzy Janowicz.
