Grigor Dimitrov's hopes of winning the Italian Open are over following a second-round defeat to Fabio Fognini.
With both players dropping serve during the first set, it came down to a mammoth tie-break to see who would draw first blood in the match.
The momentum continued to swing during the breaker, but it was Fognini who eventually won it 11-9 with over an hour gone.
Dimitrov fought back to take the second 6-4 before Fognini went into overdrive and bagelled the Bulgarian in the decider to win 7-6(9) 4-6 6-0.
The Italian's reward for beating Dimitrov is a last-16 clash with sixth seed Tomas Berdych.
