Tomas Berdych believes that the fight for the Monte Carlo Masters title is a "bit more open" following a number of shock defeats.

The Czech is relieved that the dominance of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer is less prevalent in Monaco this year following the exit of the latter.

Federer was ousted by Gael Monfils in straight sets in the third round, and with Djokovic and Nadal due to go head to head in the semi-finals, Berdych believes that a new champion could emerge.

"If you look at the last 10 years, you're going to find three guys that pretty much took all of [the titles]," Berdych told The AP.

"They are taking all from us. Usually you've got at least two or three of these guys to win the title. Here, it's a bit more open in that sense."

Berdych, who has one Masters title to his name, will face Monfils in the final four.
