Andreas Haider-Maurer has eased into the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters with a straight-sets victory over Ernests Gulbis.
The Austrian comfortably dispatched Gulbis 6-1 6-0 after just an hour of play.
Haider-Maurer broke Gulbis's serve at the first opportunity as he opened up a 3-0 lead. Gulbis responded on his next service game to reduce the lead to two games, but the world number 52 broke again in the sixth on his way to serving out the set.
Gulbis struggled on his own service game in the first set and this continued in the second, as the Latvian allowed Haider-Maurer to break three times. The Austrian took advantage of Gulbis's poor form by winning all of his service games to take the set 6-0.
Haider-Maurer will now face Bernard Tomic in the next round.
