Gael Monfils has moved into the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters following a straight-sets win over 14th seed Kevin Anderson.
The charismatic Frenchman, who is ranked 24th in the world, claimed the opening set 6-4 before sealing the victory 7-4 in a tie-break.
Up next for Monfils is an encounter with lucky loser Pablo Carreno Busta.
The Spanish youngster caused an upset earlier on Tuesday thanks to a 6-3 6-3 triumph over Croatia's Ivan Dodig.
