Argentinian player Juan Martin del Potro has officially withdrawn from the Madrid Masters, the organisers have confirmed.
Del Potro has been suffering from a viral infection which has kept him out of this week's Estoril tournament and he will not recover in time for next week's competition.
A statement on the tournament's website said: "The current world number seven is not able to play in the Estoril tournament this week in Portugal, and due to a virus, he will not be fit to play in the Mutua Madrid Open. We wish him a fast recovery."
Del Potro reached the semi-finals last year, where he was beaten by Tomas Berdych.
