Andy Murray: 'It's been my best year by a mile'

Andy Murray insists that 2012 is best year of his career "by a mile".

Andy Murray has claimed that 2012 has been his best year yet, despite his defeat at the ATP World Tour Finals.

The Brit, who was beaten in straight sets by Roger Federer in Sunday's semi-final, was reflecting on a season that saw him win gold and silver medals at the Olympics as well as his first Grand Slam title in the form of the US Open.

The 25-year-old also reached the Wimbledon final and won three titles overall.

"It was an incredibly positive year. I would have loved to finish the year on a win, of course," said Murray.

"It's been the best year of my career by a mile. So why I would look back on that negatively now would be silly because I've achieved things I've never achieved before."

Federer's reward for beating Murray is an encounter with world number one Novak Djokovic in Monday's final.
