Andy Murray thinks that he has the ability to "surpass" Novak Djokovic in the future, despite losing to the world number one in the Australian Open semi-final.

Andy Murray remains confident that he can topple the top three seeds, despite losing to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open.

The British number one fell at the final hurdle of an epic five-set match against the number one seed in Melbourne today.

"After last year, the year that Novak's had, I think there's a very fine line between being number one in the world and being three or four," said Murray. "I think that gap, I feel tonight I closed it.

"My job over the next two or three months is to surpass him and the guys in front of me. So take a lot of hard work, and hopefully I can do it.

"Everybody matures at different ages and different rates. I feel now like I'm ready mentally. Physically I can still get better, for sure. But in comparison to how I played last year, it was much, much better."

Djokovic will attempt to retain his title with a contest against Rafael Nadal in the final on Sunday.
