David Ferrer has defeated wildcard Nicolas Mahut in straight sets to claim a spot in the third round of the Paris Masters.
The Spaniard claimed a 6-4 6-4 win over Mahut to progress to the next stage of the competition.
The world number five, who has already qualified for the World Tour finals in London, looked as if he was going to storm the opening set until his French opponent hit some sensational shots to stay in touch in the initial stages of the match.
Despite an impressive performance from Mahut, the Spaniard managed to edge the first set by two games and take the lead.
The contest heated up in the second set with both competitors pushing on serve. However, Ferrer overcame the Frenchman's power and secured a spot in the third round of the tournament.
