Roger Federer: 'Retirement can wait'

Roger Federer says that "retirement can wait" as he prepares to return to the ATP Tour after five months out through injury.

Roger Federer has admitted that he got the "taste for retirement" during his time on the sidelines recovering from injury.

The legendary Swiss missed the second half of the last campaign but despite thoughts of calling a halt to his career, he has insisted that he has no plans to hang up his racquet just yet.

The 35-year-old told The New York Times: "I did get that taste of retirement. All of the sudden, I could be organised and say: 'OK, we're going to be four weeks at home in a row in the same place. Who do you want to go for dinner with, Mirka? Or who shall we catch up with?"

"I think that was really exciting and good for us to have that time. And it felt good, you know? It did feel good, but it (retirement) can totally wait. No problem for me. It can totally wait."

Federer is expected to take part in the Hopman Cup before - fitness permitting - taking his place at the Australian Open.
