World number two Maria Sharapova has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Rodgers Cup after failing to recover from a hip injury.
The Russian has not featured on the court since being knocked out during the first week of Wimbledon and will now miss the hardcourt event in Toronto.
The 26-year-old will now have just two opportunities left before the final Grand Slam of the year - the US Open.
She said in a statement: "I am extremely disappointed that I am unable to play in Toronto next week as it's one of the best and most important tournaments of the year.
"I was looking forward to making a healthy return to the courts in front of my Canadian fans but unfortunately I'm just not recovered yet."
The Rodgers Cup begins on August 3.
