Gael Monfils has delighted his home crowd with a straight-sets victory over John Isner at the Paris Masters.
The 28-year-old coped well with the threat posed by the American's big serve to run out a 6-4 7-6 victor to move into the third round.
The Frenchman created as many as eight break-point chances against Isner in the opening set, but one conversion was enough to move closer to the next stage.
Isner saved the one opening that he gave his opponent during the second, but Monfils, who currently resides at number 21 in the world rankings, controlled the tie-break to confirm his place in the last 16.
Monfils will play Novak Djokovic in the pick of the ties to be played on Thursday.
