Rafael Nadal is forced to withdraw from the Aegon Championships at Queen's due to a wrist injury, which puts his Wimbledon chances in doubt.

Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will not be competing at Queen's Club later this month because of a wrist injury.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion was part of a star-studded lineup for the Aegon Championships, but will now miss out this year.

Nadal was forced to withdraw from the French Open after winning his third-round match over Facundo Bagnis.

The Spaniard stated that if he continued to play, he was in danger of breaking his wrist, and now he has confirmed that he will not be fit enough to compete in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament either.

"I am very sad that my wrist injury means that I cannot play at The Queen's Club this year," said Nadal. "It is a tournament and a club that I love, I enjoy playing in front of the British people, and I was looking forward to trying to win the title for a second time. I wish everyone at the tournament a great week, and I look forward to returning in future years."

Tournament director Stephen Farrow added: "It is a great shame for Rafa and everyone that loves watching him play that he has sustained this injury, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

"He was in great form, and we know how much he was looking forward to playing on grass at the Aegon Championships, but his health must come first. We look forward to welcoming him back in the years to come."

Nadal's withdrawal pours doubt over his chances of playing at Wimbledon, which begins on June 27.
