Radek Stepanek has apologised for beating Andy Murray in front of a home crowd during the Aegon Championships at Queen's.

The Scotsman failed to defend his title in London after suffering a 7-6(10) 6-2 defeat to Stepanek in the third round of the tournament.

"I am sorry to beat Andy in front of his home crowd," Stepanek told BBC Two. "It's always a pleasure to play here and the way I played today I am very pleased.

"I served well against one of the game's best returners and I think that was the key. You have to come up with your best against someone like Murray and it brought the best out of me."

Murray's participation at Queen's was preparation for the defence of his Wimbledon title later this summer.
