Yen-hsun Lu has booked a place in the quarter-finals of Queen's with a 6-3 2-6 7-6[5] win over Janko Tipsarevic.
The early stages of the contest were equally matched with games going by the way of serve. However, it was 28-year-old Lu who clinched a vital break and managed to take advantage on the opening set.
While Tipsarevic displayed a number of impressive shots, the Serbian struggled to keep hold of his serve, which his Chinese opponent exploited and sneaked a one-set lead.
The 27-year-old was able to find his feet in the second set and impose his own style of play on the Chinese professional, who failed to come up with answers to Tipsarevic's powerful serves.
The world number eight took the second set rather convincingly and started off well in the third, but Lu refused to give up and was able to hold his serve and execute a number of precise forehand shots across the court.
The third set was a very tight affair between the competitors and it could have gone either way but it was Lu who grabbed the advantage in the tie-break and took victory.
