Dan Evans has continued his impressive run at the Surbiton Trophy with a quarter-final win over Jurgen Melzer.
The former British number two is looking to earn a quick rise back up the world rankings, and the Birmingham-based player now stands to move to at least 530th in the ATP standings courtesy of a 7-6 6-4 triumph over veteran Melzer.
The opening eight games went with serve and although the pair traded breaks at the business end of the first set, Evans held his nerve to come through a tie-break by a 7-3 scoreline.
Melzer remained competitive in the second but the Austrian failed to take any of his four break-point opportunities, leaving Evans to strike once to wrap up the victory in one hour and 26 minutes.
Evans will now play either Jeremy Chardy or Denis Kudla for a place in Sunday's final.
