Angelique Kerber has booked her place in the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters thanks to a three-set triumph over Russia's Ekaterina Makarova.
The German world number nine took the first set 6-4 before being routed 1-6 in the second.
However, Kerber dusted herself down to break early in the deciding set and close out the match 6-3 in just over two hours.
She will now take on either defending champion Serena Williams or Coco Vandeweghe for a semi-final spot.
