Li Na got off to a positive start at the WTA Championships in Istanbul thanks to a 6-3 7-6 victory over Sara Errani.
The Chinese number one started the brighter of the two players and after an early break of serve, she was able to claim the opening set in 43 minutes.
The second set was much more evenly contested, with both players recording breaks of serve and, as a result, a tie-breaker was required to determine a winner.
It eventually went the way of the world number five, who served out to claim a 7-5 success.
