Juan Monaco progressed to the third round of the Miami Masters with a 6-2 6-4 win over Ernests Gulbis this evening.
The world number 46 upset the 16th seed with a comfortable straight-sets victory in 79 minutes.
The Argentine broke his Latvian counterpart twice in the first five games to take a 4-1 lead in an opening set which lasted just 35 minutes.
Gulbis offered some promising signs of levelling up the match by breaking Monaco in the sixth game of the second to take a 4-2 lead.
It proved to be the last game that he won, however, as Monaco inflicted two breaks of serve in the next four games to advance to the next stage.
