Rafael Nadal has progressed into the second round of the China Open with a straight-sets victory over Richard Gasquet.
The Spanish player gained an advantage early in the opening set by breaking his opponent's serve in the third game.
Gasquet competed well but failed to take advantage of two break points that came his way, which allowed Nadal to hold his lead on his way to taking the set 6-4.
Nadal dominated the second set. After breaking his French opponent in the opening game, the world number two was comfortable as he claimed the set 6-0 to book his place in the next round of the tournament.
