Former world number one Roger Federer has advanced through to round two of the Swiss Open in Basel.
The 30-year-old, who was born in Basel, defeated Italian Potito Starace in straight sets.
Competing in his first match since mid-September, Federer required a 7-3 success in a tie-break to claim the opening set.
The second set was slightly easier for the current world number four, who eventually claimed the victory 7-6 6-4.
Federer has reached five consecutive finals in Basel, winning four of them.
