World number nine Serena Williams has progressed to the third round of the Madrid Open after dispatching Russian opponent Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
The American blitzed her way to two breaks in the first and offered Pavlyuchenkova little chance on her own service, delivering an impressive 74% of first serves.
The encounter continued in much the similar vein in the second with Serena saving the one and only break point she faced.
At 4-1 Williams made her fourth break of the match to go 5-1 ahead and she sealed the win on serve to wrap up the match in a little over an hour.
The 30-year-old will face world number six Caroline Wozniacki next after the Dane overcame Mona Barthel in another of this evening's matches.
