Number one seed Francesca Schiavone is sent packing from the second round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham by Japan's world number 107 Misaki Doi.

Number one seed Francesca Schiavone has been eliminated from the second round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham by Japan's Misaki Doi.

The former French Open champion started off well against the world number 107 with an early break of serve, but she was soon broken three times on her way to a 5-7 loss.

With both players breaking at the start of the second, rain halted proceedings with Doi leading 3-2.

When play resumed, Schiavone was broken for a second time as she went down 6-4.
