Andreas Seppi is through to the second round of the Paris Masters after progressing past Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets.
The Italian beat the former world number three 7-6 7-5 to set up a second round tie with ninth seed Nicolas Almagro.
With only ten world ranking places separating the two player, a tight match was anticipated as Seppi took the first set tie-break 7-2.
Seppi then broke the Russian early in the second set but Daydenko fought back to level the scores at 5-5.
However Seppi came strong again to win two straight games and take the second set 7-5 to progress into the next round.
