Gilles Simon has progressed into the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open after defeating Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4 6-2.
The duo managed to hold their respective serves in the early stages of the second-round clash, neither claiming a break of serve in the first few games.
The Frenchman became the first to get the break, which swayed the match in his favour to take a one-set lead in Florida.
Simon managed to keep his composure and prevent his Spanish competitor from imposing his game during the match.
While Bautista-Agut tried to force a breakthrough in the final efforts of the second set, his attempts failed as Simon finished off the contest.
