Nick Kyrgios has issued an apology after making a comment about the girlfriend of Stanislas Wawrinka.
The Australian caused widespread outrage during his match with the Swiss in Montreal last night when he claimed that fellow tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis had slept with Donna Vekic.
Kyrgios, who has been fined for the incident by the ATP, has now taken to social media to express his regret.
"I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the comments I made during the match last night vs Stan Wawrinka," he wrote on his official Facebook page.
"My comments were made in the heat of the moment and were unacceptable on many levels. In addition to the private apology I've made, I would like to make a public apology as well. I take full responsibility for my actions and regret what happened."
Wawrinka branded Kyrgios's comment as "disappointing" and "disrespectful" after the match.
