Florian Mayer has reached the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal with a three-set victory over Bernard Tomic.
Tomic came through a close opening set 7-5 before Mayer levelled the contest by taking the second 6-3 in convincing fashion.
It was the German world number 50 who took control of the match in the third set, as he saw off his Australian opponent 6-3.
Mayer will now face defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic for a place in round three.
