Mikhail Youzhny has booked his place in the third round of the Rogers Cup at the expense of ninth seed Gilles Simon courtesy of a comprehensive 6-1 6-4 victory.
The Russian dominated the opening set, racing into a 3-0 lead before saving the only break point he faced to prevent Simon from clawing a way back into the encounter.
He followed that up with another break before wrapping up the set at the first time of asking to take it 6-1.
The second began in much the same way as Youzhny broke in the opening game, although Simon was more successful on his own serve from that point on and began to make a game of it.
Simon did make the breakthrough on the Youzhny serve, but the qualifier soon struck again to seal his place in the last 16.
